Journal

January 3, 2001

Boy am I glad the holidays are over! The week after my last entry I lost .2 (flo showed that very day....so not too shabby!). So, that leaves me at 9 pounds lost for the Christmas challenge....i'm proud of that! Two days after Christmas I had a gain of 1.2 and I am ok with that too...it was well deserved...hehehe. I don't think I did too bad eating, although I know I didn't get enough of the 'good stuff' in because life was real hectic there for a while. I did, however, make better choices and that's what this is all about. I also didn't get in any exercise for over a week and my body was NOT happy! I did have too much to drink tho (dam mike's hard lemonades!) lol...and that's really what sent me over in points last week. I made the same 'mistake' this past weekend....duh....but I was sure to meet my guidelines this time and got back to working out so I feel good about the holidays overall. I had a great time....didn't stress myself out about being perfect...and I have no regrets.

The spring challenge started in our forum last week. My goal is to lose 15 pounds in the 12 weeks until spring arrives. (So far i'm up that 1.2....oopsie! :-)~) All of the goals I set for myself help me alot. The daily goals that I set....as far as keeping my journal or making sure I work out help me to remember that each day counts. The longer term goals remind me to keep focus on the bigger picture. I've been using alot of anchors as well. Andrea mentioned the flame of a candle being used as an anchor through the holidays and it has stopped me more than once in the past couple of weeks from making some poor decisions. This just proves again how very imporant the support and ideas from others can be to your weight loss efforts!

If you haven't already noticed.....the new year resolutions are in full force. Everyone is determined to make better choices to improve their lives at this time of year...this includes me! Afterall this IS the year I reach my ideal goal weight...who's up for a party???? hehehe My hope is that with all that we've learned and all that we now know about losing weight...as well as all of the success and support you can find online and with a good weight loss program....that more people will stick to their guns and not give up on their efforts with the first signs of falling off the path...and instead learn how to shake it off....and pull themselves back on. Trying to learn from it...instead of beating themselves up over it. I think it's equally important that people don't feel they need to starve or eat things they don't like in order to get weight off. We are faced with such misconceptions and poor information. There is so much to learn...and that takes time...and making mistakes.....to find out what will work best for you. I know I continue to learn better ways to help myself everyday.

I suppose it's the desperation I remember well that makes me so passionate about wanting others not to give up so easily....or maybe it's because I feel so good now....compared to 'then'. But I get so frustrated when someone tells me they 'can't' or that it's too hard....I know it's not easy....but believing you can is the first step...and it's alot easier than being over 350 pounds! It doesn't matter what has happened before or how much you have to lose.....making TODAY count is what matters most. I want people (of course this includes me! lol) to succeed...I want them to live their lives to the fullest and learn how to appreciate every moment by making positive changes....not just wishing for them. That is MY wish for the new year.

FYI...
The About.com article I did a while back will be linked as the top "spotlight" on the weightloss.about.com homepage on Monday January the 8th. I got a sneak preview of it last night and i'm happy with how it came out.

The Discovery Health Channel also starts running the piece I did for them back in October this week. This 55 second interstitial spot will be airing throughout the year on the Discovery Health Channel in rotation with commercials and in between programming. Many cable company's do not carry this channel and i've not even seen it yet (so if you happen to catch it be sure to let me know how it is...lol). I will be getting a copy of the segment at the end of the month and can hopefully offer it as a download from this site if at all possible. I noticed their website seems to carry some segments but i'm not sure if the one I did will be a part of that or if that is strictly for online purposes.

Well, that's it for now. Until next time...instead of trying to focus on where you'll be at the end of the year......try just getting through today first. :-)

Kim
