Cory
Cory has lost over 100 pounds and is getting closer and closer to his goal weight! Read more about his journey below. Visit his website....The Shrinking Man
My name is Cory Babstock and I was a FAT man.
Its funny, just 7 months ago I would have argued someone black and blue that
I wasn’t fat, big yes, chunky certainly, but FAT…. No way!!! Amazing what 7
months and close to 90 lbs of separation will do to you. I was fat, 300
lbs, or close enough to that to say I was. I was content in my role as the
big guy as well, the jolly one, the cuddly friend, the happy fat guy… all
those things and truth be told, I never realized how I had let my perception
of me warp the reality of what I was. This past summer a couple of very
dear friends decided to hold a birthday party for me and we had a blast!!!
And, as does happen at these things, pictures were taken. When my friend
e-mailed me the pictures I was horrified… I couldn’t understand it; I
wasn’t that big, the person in those pictures was HUGE. But, it was indeed
me, and for the first time in a long time I saw ME.
That was enough; I decided right then and there that the pictures taken at
my next Birthday would be of a very different man. The same day I received
the pictures I went to Weight Watchers for the first time. When I weighed
in I was in for the second shock of the day. I expected somewhere around
270 lbs…. 297!!!! I couldn’t believe it. I was amazed, stunned… how did I
let this happen??? Simple really, I let my eating get out of whack and I
had become a couch potato.
I started the program with enthusiasm and found that I really liked it… a
lot. Each week was a loss; the lbs were coming off in leaps and bounds…. I
was thrilled. There’s nothing like results to spur your confidence.
This continued until January when it became to cold to walk effectively and
I decided to join the local gym. I fell in love. I have never enjoyed
anything quite as much as I enjoyed working out. Now that has become my
focus. I am still dropping the fat, but the lbs are slowing down. But I
believe that the scale is but one reflection of your success. I have a new
goal. On November 22 2002 there is an amateur bodybuilding competition
being held here and I am entering it. Its nine months away. I look back at
how far I’ve come in the past 7 months and I have confidence that I can do
it, and compete.
The journey has been amazing, and it’s only just begun.
